First-term GOP Rep. Brandon Gill of Texas has called on the Trump administration to deport Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) back to her homeland of Somalia. In a tweet on Tuesday, Gill stated, \u201cAmerica would be a better place if @IlhanMN were deported back to Somalia.\u201d His tweet included a video clip of Omar, in which she appears to be advising fellow Somalis living in the U.S.\u2014potentially illegally\u2014on how to resist federal immigration officials.<\/p>\n
The video was shared by conservative influencer Greg Price, who claimed that Omar was hosting workshops for undocumented Somalis to help them avoid deportation. Gill’s comments received support from several users on X, with some calling Omar \u201canti-American\u201d and suggesting that her actions warranted expulsion from the country.<\/p>\n
Gill’s spokesperson commented to The Hill, stating, \u201cRepresentative Omar\u2019s conduct raises questions about to whom she is most loyal\u2014the American people or illegal aliens from Somalia.\u201d The spokesperson added that it is \u201cdisgraceful\u201d for a sitting Congresswoman and U.S. citizen to facilitate what they described as an invasion of the country by illegal immigrants.<\/p>\n
In the video, Omar advises undocumented Somalis on their rights when questioned by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers. She tells them, \u201cYou are not obligated to answer their questions. Just state that you are advised by a lawyer not to answer questions,\u201d and emphasizes that disclosing personal information is not mandatory.<\/p>\n
