But in a competition this fierce, the real question remains: Did his performance pack enough punch to keep him from being sent home?

VOICE: 17-Year-Old Trevon Dawson Brings Pure Passion To Cover Of “Red Dirt Road” | Classic Country Music | Legendary Stories and Songs Videos

Dawson Competes In Voice Knockouts

17-Year-Old Trevon Dawson kept it country during the Voice knockouts, opting to cover Brooks & Dunn‘s iconic hit, “Red Dirt Road.”

Dawson first rose to fame after auditioning for Season 27 of The Voice. His cover of Bailey Zimmerman’s “Religiously” got coach Adam Levine to turn his chair.

Levine was amazed by Dawson’s talent, remarking that his voice “cuts like a knife.”

After that, Levine paired Dawson with Tyler Kae during the battles. They covered Avril Lavinge’s “I’m With You,” but gave the song a country twist.

You killed it,” Levine told Dawson after the battle. He expressed his pride in the teen for proving he could sing outside of the country “box” and ended up choosing him as the winner of the battle.

Dawson advanced to the Voice knockouts, where he returned to his country roots. This time, he sang “Red Dirt Road” by Brooks & Dunn.

Brooks & Dunn released “Red Dirt Road” in April 2003 as the first single from their album of the same title. The song reached the #1 spot on the Hot Country Songs chart and crossed over to claim the 25th spot on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100.

Did Trevon Dawson Avoid Elimination After Singing “Red Dirt Road” On The Voice?

Wanting to leave it all onstage, Dawson’s cover of “Red Dirt Road” was passionate and full of energy. He worked the stage and directly interacted with the crowd and coaches.

Plus, the song gave him the chance to demonstrate the vocal talent that won Adam Levine over in the blind auditions. You could hear that “cuts like a knife” quality in Dawson’s voice when he hit some of the longer, stronger notes.

The coaches appeared charmed by Dawson’s performance. The cameras showed them smiling and clapping along throughout the song.

Viewers also enjoyed Dawson’s cover of “Red Dirt Road,” and they left comments on YouTube such as:

“He’s only 17, has massive potential as a country artist and I’m sure he’ll go places! Solid choice of song for him!”

“This is one of my favorites on The Voice this season he is so good bravo.”

“Trevor sings this song very believably and with exceptional enthusiasm! Such a good country voice!”

“He was dialed in, working the audience, telling the story. He’s got the moves, comfortability, and solid vocals. Great energy up there.”

“Well Adam you got you a real country singer there man.”

But was Dawson’s performance enough to help him avoid elimination and advance to the live shows?

Unfortunately, the 17-year-old’s Voice journey has ended. Levine chose his knockout competitor, Ethan Eckenroad, as the winner of the round.
