Miranda Lambert’s Most Memorable ACM Moments: Shade at Blake Shelton and More
As the ACM Awards approach this week, let’s reflect on one of the most unforgettable moments in recent history — Miranda Lambert’s epic shade directed at her ex-husband, Blake Shelton.
During her performance at a previous ACM Awards, Miranda ignited the stage with a medley of hits like “Kerosene” and “Gunpowder and Lead.” However, the standout moment occurred when she altered the lyrics to “Little Red Wagon.” Instead of singing, “I live in Oklahoma,” she passionately declared, “I got the hell out of Oklahoma.”
It was a clear jab at Blake, an Oklahoma native. While she had been performing the song with the new lyric for some time, this was the first instance she did it with Blake present. Naturally, fans were eager to see his reaction. Although it may have seemed petty, everyone was anticipating the camera to capture Blake’s expression.
Ultimately, Miranda has every right to change the lyrics, especially since she no longer resides in Oklahoma. However, there was undoubtedly an extra spark in that performance with Blake in the audience, and we admire her for it.
Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton’s Special Song “Over You”
Despite the playful digs, there’s no animosity between Miranda and Blake. She has expressed how meaningful their song “Over You” is, a piece they co-wrote about Blake’s late brother. Miranda described the song as a significant moment for both of them, stating, “I’m glad we shared that song and that it helped his family heal, to have that together.”
Miranda Lambert Calls Out Ashton Kutcher at the 2012 ACM Awards
Another iconic ACM moment occurred in 2012 when Miranda Lambert candidly addressed Ashton Kutcher’s awkward appearance at the awards. Dressed like a cowboy clown, Kutcher delivered a clumsy rendition of George Strait’s “I Cross My Heart” before introducing the nominees for Female Vocalist. The performance was uncomfortable, leaving many country fans questioning why Ashton, a celebrity from outside the country music scene, was on stage at all.
While Ashton is a country fan (his level of fandom might be debatable), his performance was widely perceived as a mockery of the genre. Miranda, however, didn’t hold back when she later admitted her discomfort, labeling it a “dumb moment in ACM history.”
However, a month later, when Miranda met Ashton at the Kentucky Derby, she shared that Ashton “loved real country music,” which helped soften the blow.
